Karl Rackette, LL.M.

is a graduate physicist and holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. After training as a patent attorney in a renowned law firm in the Stuttgart area, he has been practicing in Freiburg since his admission as a patent attorney in 1979. Karl also holds a Master's degree in Intellectual Property Law and Management.

 

The main focus of his work as a patent attorney is the registration, representation, enforcement and exploitation of patents, utility models, trademarks and designs in Germany and worldwide.

 

Karl has many years of in-depth experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and physics. He has particular expertise in fastening technology, automotive technology, medical technology, semiconductor technology, information technology, laser technology, power engineering and measurement technology.

 

Through regular participation in training events, working groups and conferences at an international level, Karl is well informed about the latest developments in the field of intellectual property, not only in Europe and Germany, but also worldwide.


In addition, Karl is regularly involved in the training of foreign patent attorneys particularly in Asia, on behalf of the European Commission in the program South-East Asia IPR SME Helpdesk program, often at the invitation and on behalf of patent offices. He benefits from such lectures for his own practice.

Joachim Rüttgers

is a graduate physicist and holds a Ph.D. in the field of laser spectroscopy. After a one-year research stay in France on a grant from the German Research Foundation, he has been working in the field of intellectual property since 1992 and was admitted as a German and European Patent Attorney in 1996. Joachim is also admitted to practice before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

 

The main focus of his work as a patent attorney is drafting patent applications and conducting patent examination proceedings, opposition proceedings against granted patents, filing trademark applications, obtaining design registrations and advising on employee invention matters.

 

Joachim's technical specialties are mechanical engineering, fastening technology, medical technology, measuring technology, optics, optical spectroscopy and laser technology.

 

Joachim was entrusted with a long-term mandate as a deeply involved head of the patent department of a medium-sized, internationally positioned company with an extensive patent portfolio. This position gave him valuable insight into how intellectual property issues are handled within companies.

 

In addition to teaching at various universities on invitation, he regularly supports pro bono projects such as the well-known German youth science competition "jugend forscht" as a juror and advisor to university start-ups.
